Bridget Burkill
Mat & Reformer
How did you come to find Pilates?
I first discovered Pilates as a teenager while at school. Our instructor was more flexible, mobile and fitter than any of us and when we found out she was in her 70s I knew instantly that Pilates would stay part of my life forever!
What’s your training and background?
I am STOTT PILATES trained in both Mat and Reformer Pilates.
Why do you teach?
I love the community that comes from teaching. Every client and instructor I meet becomes part of my Pilates family. Being able to help people discover their own mental and physical strength is the most rewarding part of what I do.
Who do you especially love teaching?
I love working with those who feel they are not very flexible or co-ordinated – we are all a lot more capable than we think!
How would you describe your class style?
Mindful, dynamic, energising, uplifting, fun.
How do you want people to feel after your classes?
I want people to feel uplifted and energised when they leave my classes. You will leave feeling stronger in both your mind and body. I also want people to have fun when they are with me! Being able to laugh and not take yourself too seriously is an important life skill.
What do you love doing outside the studio?
Outside of the studio you will usually find me outdoors – I especially love long walks in the New Forest with my dog. My family are Australian – the ocean has always been my second home, even if it is a bit too cold in this country!
Anything else you’d love clients to know?
My philosophy with Pilates, and all forms of exercise, is that we don’t have to move, we get to move. I am grateful for any chance I get to move my body, it is such a privilege.
