Suzi Shandall-Wood
Mat & Reformer
How did you come to find Pilates?
Discovering Pilates was transformative in my own wellness journey, particularly following my breast cancer diagnosis three years ago. I discovered reformer during my recovery as I searched for a way to safely rebuild my physical and mental strength. Today, this mind-body connection remains a sustainable, life-long practice that continues to improve my posture, flexibility, and overall mental wellbeing.
What is your professional background & training?
I am an APPI (Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute) trained Pilates instructor and also currently practice as a GP both privately and for the NHS. I have a specialist interest in lifestyle medicine and believe that movement is one of the most powerful tools we have for health. My passion lies in helping people to build a body that feels strong and resilient, giving you the confidence to move safely and effectively.
How would you describe your class style in a few words?
Relaxed, energising, empowering, inclusive, challenging and most of all fun!
What do you hope someone feels in your classes?
In my classes I’d love to help you walk away feeling stronger, more grounded and more physically capable. By focusing on the connection between breath and controlled movement the goal is for you to shift away from the day's stresses and leave the studio feeling invigorated for your daily life.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not teaching?
I am happiest outdoors, making the most of life by the sea at my home on the Isle of Wight. My days are usually filled with the wonderful chaos of raising two young children and keeping up with a very energetic fox red Labrador! Whether we are exploring the island’s coastal paths, spending time on the beach, or simply enjoying the fresh sea air, being outside is where I recharge and find my own balance.
Is there anything else you’d love your clients to know?
I am here to support you in discovering your own physical potential in a relaxed and supportive environment, and I look forward to helping you move with more confidence, ease, and joy.
